Talal Shaikh
Talal Shaikh is currently Assistant Professor at Heriot Watt University Dubai in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science (MACS). Some of the subjects he teaches are Network Applications, Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. He is also a member of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
Previously he has was Chief Information Officer at a law firm where he managed a number of internal software development projects. Prior to this, he worked as a Software Engineer for an international company specializing in software solutions and consulting services for traffic and transportation, mobility, and logistics. It is here where he was first exposed on how Agile Methodologies were used to drive more efficient teams and deliver high quality products.
In his Software Engineering course, students have to form groups to develop a software solution and they are encouraged to build projects using Agile Methodologies. Along with sharing his experience, he invites industry speakers to give lecturers that provide students with further insight into the subject.
His research area of interest is making “things” such as robots and devices “talk” to one another using software in order to carry out a task and achieve a common goal. His ongoing Phd research covers ubiquitous and pervasive computing, Machine to Machine(M2M) technologies and the Internet of Things. His academic area of interest covers student learning and student experience.
